great small business solution

Strengths: fast drive, reliable, and inexpensive

Weakness: security setup is pretty basic, no support of asian fonts

this is a great and inexpensive way to share files in a small business. we have a 5 person architectural firm and we use this thing as a file server and another for a backup! some of our files are pretty large (over 100mb) and this thing does really well. we've had it for 6 months now with absolutely no problems and no disk errors. The only reason I'm giving it 4 instead of 5 stars is that...

Reliability - Strong, Speed - Acceptable,...

Strengths: The Buffalo NAS Linkstation is HIGHLY compatible with both Macs and PCs. I used SMB mode on my Mac. Windows was simple. Reliable. No power brick.

Weakness: Speed -- not quite as fast as I would have liked given that I was connected with a 100 mbps switch. White plastic on the sides looks cheap. Security is weak. Noisy.

Once installed and configured, it has never failed me. The drive has been reliable, and I have never had a problem connecting to the device to transfer files. I would recommend this for a small office or home use, especially when people must share files. The USB connectivity for external storage is convenient, but I have not yet connected an external drive to report on. Make sure you have a cool,...

So far so good!!!

Strengths: * Very fast and easy to setup * Easy to use web configuration utility program * No additional software required to be setup on the PCs

Weakness: * The web configuration utility is slow * The FTP functionality is not working properly (could be the Linkstation or my router -- haven't figured it out yet). * Firmware should be updated prior

Background: I currently run a home network with four computers, one HP wireless printer, and a TiVo. I am not a super tech guy, but am comfortable setting up and running a basic home network. Recently, I have been searching for a device that I could use to backup a few of the computers as well as do a little file sharing. Originally, I was going to just purchase a USB external hard drive and...

Buffalo Technology NAS LinkStation 160GB Network...

Strengths: Quiet, small, reliable, versatile.

Weakness: not enough storage, not a gigabit interface, only one USB port.

This linkstation is incredible. It's exactly what I need and no more. It's got a built-in storage server, FTP server, USB print server, and media server for the Buffalo Linktheater media player. The weaknesses I noted will all soon be addressed by the new Buffalo server; however, I thought they were not important enough to me to pay more.

Buffalo Technology NAS LinkStation 160GB Network...

Strengths: Solid dependable independent storage device for connecting to home networks to share data. Data does not have to be confined to a PC, but accessible to any PC connected through a switch or hub.

Weakness: I did say this device is "solid", didn't I?

This has been the answer to my prayers for a independent network storage device for holding ghost images of each of my 5 PC's. All I have to do is boot with a predefined network bootable CD, launch Ghost and store a perfect backup image onto the Link Station. Restoring it, is just as simple. Just starting to play with the included backup configuration and FTP, but I suspect they will be just as...

Buffalo Technology NAS LinkStation 160GB Network...

Strengths: No brainer to setup, multi-platform access

Weakness: none so far

My wired/wireless home network consists of both PCs and a Mac running OS 9. As I create documents on each, I was looking for a solution that would provide cross-platform access. The LinkStation does this. Hooked it into the wireless router, it obtained an IP and now all documents can be stored on the LinkStation and be accessed by any computer on the network. My next task is setting up the FTP...

Buffalo HD-H160LAN

Strengths: Easy to configure and use

Weakness: none

It is a good product. Very easy to configure and use. The read and write performance are good too. It runs 24/7 now without any single problem. Very stable. I am pretty happy about it.

Easy to configure, works fine

Strengths: Simple, reliable

Weakness: Speed, security setting

Setup was straightforward and the configuration is easy. But the security setting is just very basic. It runs 24/7 without any problem. The speed is just so so, not as fast as 100 mbps. Overall, it is good for the home use.

Great NAS solution for home

Strengths: Tiny, Cute, Reliable Network Attached Storage for home purpose.

Weakness: Nice if it had Gigabit ethernet but that costs more.

Here is a NAS solution perfect for a home. This little linkstation is perfect for a network based solution. I have my laptops and printer connected directly to the linkstation and I can print from any one of my laptop without evening switching on my computer. I use the hard drive to store all my important documents and then back them to another external hard drive for redundancy purpose. This way...
