Great camera, but you better hope it doesn't break...

Strengths: Clear, vivid pictures; nice, compact design

Weakness: Very fragile LCD screen; very poor Canon customer/repair service

I bought this camera and it took great pictures, at least until I took it out of the case one day (only 2 weeks after I bought it!) to discover that the LCD screen had shattered internally. I saw that other Canon camera reviews warned that the LCD was prone to breaking, but I figured the Canon brand was trustworthy enough to provide great customer support/repair if that were to happen. I was...

Canon PowerShot SD1000 Digital Camera

Strengths: Price. Takes good pictures. Very little lag time. Compact.

Weakness: No IS, proprietary battery.

Although this camera does not have IS, it is a nice little camera for the price. It is lightweight and compact which makes it easy to carry around and have handy when needed. I have the SD800 also and the picture quality is on par with that, but you do get some blurry pictures. On the whole though, I would say it is definitely nice for the price and the only thing lacking is the IS.

Pretty Cool

Strengths: Compact size, short lag time between shots, face recognition, multiple shoot modes, price, no more AA batteries

Weakness: Could have a stronger flash, more plastic parts than metal(not a problem yet)

I was upgrading from an Olympus 2.1 megapixel from 2001 so anything was sure to be an improvement. It's nice to see that digital cameras have come a long way. I am an average picture taker who has a wife and 2 kids (5 and 1), and take mostly family pictures whether it be outside or inside. This thing is light and compact. The battery life has not been a problem and there are many modes to choose...

Great shots in perfect lighting, horrible in dim...

Strengths: Small size, excellent photos in good lighting, fun (some say gimmicky) settings, takes SD cards, compact battery charger with foldaway prongs (great for traveling), fast start-up & burst mode

Weakness: Does horrible in less than perfect lighting with no flash, sometimes requires a lot of fiddling around with manual settings to get a decent photo

I first decided to buy this camera because it was the smallest one currently in stores. I like the boxy shape, which makes it easier for me to hold than the ones with rounded corners. For me, image quality was a big let-down on this camera. Set on auto mode, the camera takes crisp photos with good color reproduction when outdoors in bright light. Most of the time, it will also take good photos...

SD1000

Strengths: size, everything you can find in a bigger Canon

Weakness: none compared to other SDs

received this camera in the mail. Really nice--does everything that any other SDs will do, except for IS that is probably a useful feature. photos are just as good, videos are just as good. Price is a big plus! substantially cheaper than a lot of SDs! Highly recommended.

DEAD OUT OF THE BOX

Strengths: Looks nice as a paper weight!

Weakness: DEAD upon arrival!!! Lens ERROR

I just got the camera not less than several hours ago, I charged the battery, popped it into this camera, expecting it to work, and next thing i know, its says lens error - restart camera. Well i did that several times, to no avail! I did some research online and found this problem happens to many people, usually with the camera not function ever again!!! and guess what, people have said that...

Good, but not as good as SD800 IS

Strengths: small size, stylish body, innovational design (silver and black mixed), consistently good pic quality...

Weakness: price ok, but not competitive. functions not enough. NO Image Stablization!! Only 7 MP, no any advancement over its pal SD800IS!

Overall it's a good camera. It inherited its precedents like SD800IS, having good pic quality (Canon's feature) and stylish body. Price is ok, now $249; but it's not competitive compared with other brands, even with Canon SD800 IS. So unless you have a strong desire on particular features of SD1000, otherwise I think SD800 IS is a better option, priced at $299.

canon sd1000 camera

Strengths: high resolution, vivid picture

Weakness: none

There are two versions of Canon SD1000 digital camera. I believe the difference between the two is just about the appearance. This one has the black rims around the lens, the other has all silver outlook. In terms of functionality, there are no differences. Overall quality is very good.

Canon PowerShot SD1000 Digital Camera

Strengths: Small, viewfinder window

Weakness: None for a compact

The problem with most camera's are they are to Big. Not so with the Canon SD1000. Just put it in your pocket and you are ready for that Great Photo. Ease of use is fairly simple, resolution is great for the size of the camera. I have been using the camera for a few days and happy with it so far.

Canon foo

Strengths: Doesn't work.

Weakness: Doesn't work.

Arrived malfunctioning. T/S said it was a faulty lens assembly. Promptly delivered to Factory Service Center. They stated they "probably" stocked the part. This means NO. Only buy this "camera" from a vendor you can take it right back to and use the refund to buy a camera that works. Also I noticed it takes crummy indoor pix without flash when it doesn't shutdown.

Canon PowerShot SD1000 Digital ELPH (Black)

THE GOOD: Excellent image quality; solid build quality; speedy performance; optical viewfinder; face detection. THE BAD: No manual exposure controls. THE BOTTOM LINE: Small size, excellent image quality, and a solid, though not extensive, feature set make the SD1000 a great choice for a compact camera.

Canon is King

Canon makes great digital cameras. This one is small, compact and 7 mega pixels. While I don't know exactly what that means, I do know that you can have pictures blown up to life size without losing any quality. Creepiness just got a little easier.

Canon PowerShot SD1000 Digital ELPH

Canon's new PowerShot SD1000 Digital ELPH has a futuristic, yet retro look that is almost identical to the original, film-based ELPH, introduced back in May 1996. In addition to its compact size and eye-catching design, the 7-megapixel SD1000 has a standard 3x optical zoom with a 35mm equivalent focal range of 35-105mm, a 2.5-inch LCD, and an optical viewfinder. Exposure is automatic, and a new...

DCRP Review: Canon PowerShot SD1000 Digital ELPH

As long-time readers of this site may know, I've been a fan of Canon's Digital ELPH series of cameras since their inception back in the year 2000. This latest model -- the PowerShot SD1000 -- is a stylish, easy-to-use, and responsive ultra-compact camera that takes good quality photos. While not perfect (but what is?), the SD1000 easily earns my recommendation.

Canon Digital IXUS 70 Review

The new Canon Digital IXUS 70 compact digital camera (also known as the Powershot SD1000) was first announced just before the PMA show in early March. Measuring just 19.4mm deep, the new IXUS 70 is Canon's slimmest digital camera ever, and it also weighs just 125gms and fits in the palm of your hand. Headline features of the IXUS 70 include a 7 megapixel sensor, 2.5 inch LCD screen, 3x optical...
