Fabulous ultra-compact cameraStrengths: 28mm wide angle is the most important factor I chose this model over other compact camera. 3 inch LCD monitor is really nice and easy to see. Adjustable focus area. Weakness: Pricey. After using it for a month which I upgraded from my Canon A95. I wanted a small camera that I could take on the road with me and this SD 870IS is perfect. It lacks a lot of the manual settings of my A95, but has much more to contribute. Large screen, IS, face detection, fairly fast power on/first shot time, and good night/indoor shots are features you need to get a good photo which this camera...

Canon SD870IS is a revelation in its class!Strengths: Huge beautiful 3" LCD, nonreflective screen, image stabilization, wide angle , SDHC AND MMC-HC compatibility, ultra fast startup/stop/shot transition times, intuitive controls, 1-handed operation Weakness: No optical viewfinder, paltry optical zoom, night capture noisy at ISO > 400, no dedicated aperture/shutter priority modes, This camera is by far the best sub-$300 compact point shooter in its class bar none. From the large 3" LCD screen with great resolution to transflective screen to intuitive, user-friendly controls, to the classy and lightweight aluminum bezel and nice strong flash, this camera is suitable for use indoors or outdoors for a wide variety of purposes. I use it at parties and a recent outdoor...

Wow, what a camera!Strengths: Huge screen, great software, excellent form factor. Weakness: Proprietary battery, no optical viewfinder. This is the ultimate camera for portable point and shoot capability. The wide angle lens, megapixel count, and optical zoom are among the best in the market. The form factor is great. The software is Canon's, which is the best around. The only drawbacks are the lack of an optical viewfinder (to make room for the gigantic 3 inch LCD), and the proprietary battery (as opposed to simple AAs). These...

Excellent compact cameraStrengths: Fast startup time, fast pic-to-pic times, BIG LCD, good battery life, great pictures. Weakness: Would like aperture priority and shutter priority modes. This is a great little pocket camera. I have owned a number of ELPH's over the years and when my last one (SD300) was stolen, I decided to get this one for my wife and I. This ELPH is a pleasure to use. Since it is SDHC compatible, we got a 4-GB card and basically can take pictures to our hearts' content. Since we have such a high-capacity card, I have also been using the burst mode feature quite...

Canon's best ELPH EVERStrengths: Sharp photos with great color saturation Optical image stabilization Speedy shot-to-shot time for an ultra-compact Bright 3" screen that's easy to view in all lighting situations Great movie m Weakness: No optical viewfinder This camera replaced my trusty SD630. I loved the SD630, but I wanted to upgrade to something with image stabilization. To put it simply, the SD870 totally rocks! The 3" screen is beautiful to behold. It's even viewable outside with bright sunlight shining directly on it. And the pictures this thing takes are absolutely gorgeous! They are sharp as a tack, and the colors are spot on. I have to...

Great CameraStrengths: Cool point and shoot with "wide angle". Very handy, good design. IS feature helps with shots at night and fast moving objects. Pre-set scene and my color effects are quite useful Weakness: Lack of manual control, no optical view finder. Quite expensive I owned Canon Ixus 400, which was purchased 6 years ago so I think that it's the time for a major upgrade. After going through many review sites, I found that Canon SD 870 IS is one of the best point and shoot that is recommended by experts. As a big Canon fan, I find that the menus and functions are easy to operate and user-friendly. However, I think that Canon should have some brief guiding for...

Little giantStrengths: Small, fast, durable, beautiful Weakness: couldn't find so far I bought this camera as a replacement for S400. What a big step! Absolutely beautiful camera, very fast start, huge LCD, image stabilization, good battery life. I'm generally very picky but couldn't find any weakness so far. Very convenient interface, I shouldn't even look in the manual too often. I thought that lack of view-finder can be a problem but apparently not.

Blurry pictures without flash, color is off, neat...Strengths: Good close-up/macro pictures, neat horizontal/vertical display orientation Weakness: Blurry pictures without flash, no shadow flash, white balance/color is not close to real life, face detection not good, image stabilization This camera produces blurry pictures, unless you only take pictures with flash. Doesn't matter what settings you choose or anything, the pictures will be blurry unless you can get your subject to be very still (which kids, pets, and most adults don't do well). So much for image stabilization. The white balance color compared to real life is off when it comes to pictures indoors under...

Nice Camera for daylight shootingStrengths: 3" LCD, Wide angle lens, Good color contrast image, Good battery life. Weakness: Night time shots in citylights turn blurry in long range Very good camera for amateur photographers.. The picture quality is the same as some of the 12 MP cameras. Very Good for daylight shots. Good for indoor shots with good lighting. Not bad with flash shots.

Canon PowerShot SD870 IS (Black)
THE GOOD: Impressive performance and image quality; optical image stabilization; face detection. THE BAD: No manual exposure controls; no optical viewfinder. THE BOTTOM LINE: While the Canon PowerShot SD870 IS doesnt have an optical viewfinder or manual exposure controls, it captures beautiful images with its wide, 3.8x optical zoom lens and ranks among the top compact cameras weve seen. DCRP Review: Canon PowerShot SD870 IS Digital ELPH
Though it's not perfect, the Canon PowerShot SD870 IS Digital ELPH is a very good choice for those who want an ultra-compact camera with a wide-angle lens, image stabilization, and a huge LCD display. It takes good quality pictures quickly, with an easy-to-use interface and plenty of point-and-shoot features. It remains to be seen how the SD870 compares to its closest competitor, the Panasonic... Camera Labs – Canon PowerShot SD870 IS review
From the first moment you pick up the Canon SD870 IS, it’s clear you’re dealing with a quality product. It feels well built and comfortable to hold, starts very quickly, offers decent wide angle coverage and boasts a huge screen which looks great in use. Photographic enthusiasts will miss full manual control, but then the SD870 IS does a great job in automatic. The slow continuous shooting,... Top

Canon PowerShot SD870 IS
For those who love photography, it's the Canon SD870 IS in particular that stands out among Canon's current digital ELPH pocket cameras. Sure, the Canon SD870 has a big 3-inch LCD screen, optical image stabilization, face detection, and high ISO; all the current "must-have" features are there. But the Canon SD870 IS is most appealing for its 28 - 105mm lens. Finding any digital camera with a wide... Top

An amazing point and shoot
Strengths: Compact size, 3" screen, power up time, quick memory write
Weakness: Flash is fairly small. Screen is hard to see in sun.
I purchased the SD870 to replace my old Powershot S40. I was pleasantly surprised by the vast improvements that Canon has made on their point and shoot cameras over the years. This camera is very light and small, yet has a big and bright 3" screen. The unit powers on in less than a second and is ready to take pictures. Your shots are written to the memory card so fast, that you can take...
