nice simple machine

Strengths: light weight, low price point, and fast boot times.

Weakness: storage space and keyboard key sizes.

This is an excellent computer for when you don't want to heft around a 17" laptop or when you need to have something simple and straight forward. I got this so I don't have to take my heavy 10 lbs 17" Toshiba and this fits in my backpack with no problems and is not too heavy.

Best micro laptop around

Strengths: extremely light, fast, upgradeable, fantastic product

Weakness: hard to find any, maybe the 4GB SSD

Really light (2 lb), with upgradeable RAM (up to 2 GB if you hack the Xandros kernel, or install Ubuntu or even Windows - the Windows drivers are included), wickedly fast without the Ms bloatware, easy to hack (is a Linux machine). I bought for my wife, which loves it (her first exposure to Linux, and no transition issues what so ever), but I find using it myself quite a bit. To give you an idea...

A cheap ultraportable that gets the job done

Strengths: Solid build, very small, lots of usb ports, bright screen, decent battery life (about 3 hours with wifi on), decent quality webcam, boots very quickly

Weakness: Slow processor, limited internal storage, could use a larger screen considering the size of the border around it. 800x480 resolution can be a pain, mostly due to low vertical size.

My first impression taking it out of the box was that it was tiny. Holding it in my hands the entire machine felt very solidly built. The LCD's hinge feels nice and sturdy and it closes with a snap. The operating system it comes with is more than decent for surfing the web, though for youtube videos it's hard to make the entire video fit so I often find myself hitting F11 to maximize the browser...

a reasonable ultra-portable companion to your desktop

Strengths: Lightweight, long battery life. Expandable storage space with SDHD slot. Can install to winXP, and comes with a xp driver cd. In XP- Can play high quality XVID/DIVX videos with no stuttering.

Weakness: 800x480 resolution is sometimes a limitation for some media heavy websites. the 900mhz processor is limited to ~600mhz by default.

On windows xp, the stock video drivers do not allow a stretched fullscreen 640x480x32 application. There is a modified driver that will fix it, or certain games can be modified to run at the Eee native resolution. Hopefully asus will update the driver to solve this issue.

Great travel companion

Strengths: Ultra-portable, inexpensive, good battery life.

Weakness: Limited storage space, only a handful of applications, a little slow

The reason for me to buy this laptop instead of a regular one is for its size and weight. There are similar products in the markets but at much higher price. I am very surprised that Asus could make this so affordable. Although there are only 4G of storage space that is basically not enough to install anything. This machine is very expendable. Adding external USB flash or disk drives, one...

Amazing little thing

Strengths: size, weight, surprising ability

Weakness: screen resolution

This is a very good 2nd pc/laptop. Comes with Linux, but with instructions on how to install Windows XP. Memory can be upgraded to 1GB without issue -- although you'd want to check the warranty since it differs by country. Very easy to use right out of the box. One thing I noticed though was that the sometimes the ctrl key of left tab doesn't always register. I haven't quite figured out if it...

Lil Buddy or Too Tiny

Strengths: Lightweight, fully functional low powered laptop. Can install Windows XP, comes with Windows XP drivers.

Weakness: Tiny keyboard keys, especially for large hands. Small screen real estate.

I was really excited to get the eeePC, especially after playing around with a friends. However, after using it for a n extended period, I found it to be rather uncomfortable when used as a web surfing appliance. The small screen makes it difficult to read most pages without having to scroll across from side to side. The keyboard is also tiny and I notice that I frequently miss keys or they do not...

Camera Labs – Asus Eee PC 4G review

The Asus Eee PC is undoubtedly a remarkable laptop for the money. Most ultra-portables are bigger, heavier and cost at least five times more. So the fact you can now get yourself a fully-functional laptop which could slip into a large coat pocket for this amount of money is almost revolutionary. Of course it’s not perfect though – we’d have preferred more storage, a higher resolution screen...
