Cool, quiet, good value mainstream video card

Strengths: Adequate GPU for the latest DirectX 9 gaming in Windows XP and DirectX 10/10.1 in Windows Vista. Built on the latest 55nm technology so runs cooler. HIS cooling solution is quiet and attractive.

Weakness: The fan is loud during initial boot up and until drivers are installed. The card and cooler take up 2 expansion slots but the cooling benefits outweigh the loss of the 2nd slot.

My previous nVidia 8600 GTS video card ran very hot and the fan was very loud during 3D gaming. I was debating between this 3850 card and an 8800 GS which is in the same price range and I'm glad I went with card because it runs very cool and quiet even after hours of 3D gaming. It may not be the fastest card for the price which prevents it from getting my 5-star rating but it is perfect for my...
