Maxtor Storage Drive 200GB Hard Drive

Strengths: Easy to set up, stylish looking

Weakness: None so far

I am always satisfied with Maxtor Products, and this is one of them. It is portable and good-looking. This hard drive is very easy to set up. The transfer speed is quite fast, and the price is not expensive. Well, it is a nice product for daily data back-up. I like it very much, and I would always stick to Maxtor products.

Maxtor 200 Gb Shared Storage is a marginally useful...

Strengths: It is expandable, hackable, small and quiet.

Weakness: Speed, heat

I bought the Maxtor Shared Storage (MSS) drive to act as Network Attached Storage for my home network. It was fairly easy to setup if you use Maxtor's Quick Start software but it definitely needs a much better manual. Once its setup you don't need to install any drivers and can use it from any computer on your network. The MSS runs Linux and is hackable (there is 3rd party firmware at openmss.org...

Maxtor Shared Storage Network Hard Drive

Strengths: Itlooks good. Very stylish.

Weakness: Sloooooooooow. I am currently restoring from my snap server image, 10 gig worth. So far it has taken 14 hours and estimate it will be at it for another 6. This is a hard drive to hard drive restore.

Don't bother. Having had a snap server for 5 years, I'm going back. This thing is slower than a floppy. Having 4 computers on a my network(all xp pro) set up identically as for as network settings go, only one will see the drive. It's not worth the effort to figure why the others don't see it. It's going back and I'll stay with the snap.

Sharing files made easy

Strengths: Easy setup, comes with needed cable

Weakness: Can get somewhat warm, fan sometimes a bit noisy

I bought this Maxtor Shared Storage drive to hold and share my music and photographs. I found it easy to setup and install using the Maxtor Quick Start software. It even came with its own Ethernet cable so I didn't have to go out and buy one. Now I'm sharing my music and photos between several PCs without a problem.

Solid construction, quiet, powerful.

Strengths: Excellent interface and printer support.

Weakness: none

The enclosure was made with solid metal and looks good in an office setup. The file server software is very well excecuted with lots of function. Make sure to update to the latest firmware to support one-click backup feature.

Powerful, great PC/MAC compatibility

Strengths: All-in-one (file server, print server), good mini computer inside for good user control, MAC compatibility is good. Stylish.

Weakness: Need better manual

This is a great product if you need printer server as well as file server. The two USB ports in the back allow you to attach up to two printers or two additional USB drives. The speed is decent- ~ 3hrs to backup my mac mini (20GB) through wireless network + router. With the complexity of the user setup, (user group, access right) the manual should explain it in more details.

Shared Storage Drive 200GB Hard Drive

Strengths: All in one hard drive, quick,

Weakness: none so far

I always buy maxtor brand hard drive. high quality. This one gives you more than I know. A family can share a harddrive and we will not worry that our laptop doesnot have enough room any more. We can store music, movie inside and donot have to put in every family PC.

Maxtor Shared Storage Drive 200GB Hard Drive H01P200

Strengths: Easy install, good price, configurable, 2 USB ports, access control, supports Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP, reasonably quiet, updates and backup SW available for download from the Maxtor website.

Weakness: Documentation, difficult to change drive name, limited printer support.

I purchased this drive recently from Staples on clearance for 55AC. I had not heard much about it, just knew that the price was right and thought I would give it a try. It comes in an aluminum case with a small exhaust fan, can be positioned vertically with an included plastic cradle, or horizontally with some included rubber feet. Also included in the box are an Ethernet cable, a power adapter,...

Drive is Pretty Fast and Very Useful

Strengths: Everyone in the Home or Office Can Back Up to it

Weakness: None

The reviewer before said this is a slow device? NO WAY!!! It's fast enough (I just did 14 GB in about 30 minutes). This is a fantastic solution for ensuring that you keep your data in two places. I am a on-site computer repair tech and sell quite a few of these to my customers. This is a plug and forget device. Works as advertised and is an easy way to manage your data safely. Set it for 2 AM...
