ATI has a winner on it's hands with the new HD4870
Strengths: 1. Excellent gaming performance compared to previous ATI HD3xxx series cards 2. Dual slot cooler exhausts air outside of the case 3. Very reasonably priced compared to competing products
Weakness: 1. Runs hot at both idle and load 2. Fan is very noisy when running at full speed 3. Weird random fan spin up bug
My previous video card, a Nvidia 8800GT wasn't cutting it after I upgraded to a newer, bigger LCD panel. I went from an 18" to a 20", with the resolution going from 1280x1024 to 1600x1200.
